PPC Barnet DRC has awarded a US$300 million engineering, procurement and construction contract to China’s Sinoma International Engineering Company for the construction of a new cement plant in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The cement plant is located near Zamba in the Cataracts district, about 230 kilometers from Kinshasa. The plant will consist of a five-stage preheater kiln with an inline calciner and will produce 1 million tons of cement a year. The cement will be used locally in the DRC, as well as being exported to neighboring African neighbors, PPC Barnet said in a statement.
Sinoma will begin construction shortly and will take about 26 months to complete the project. The plant will begin production at the end of 2016.
