Lifting specialist Biglift Shipping has delivered a 1,200-ton continuous ship unloader from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, to Haramachi, Japan.

The delivery was managed by BigLift in cooperation with its Japanese client IHI Transport Machinery Co. The CSU was delivered and installed to replace a damaged unit at the Haramachi thermal electric power station.

BigLift utilized its vessel Happy Buccaneer for the shipment, equipped with two 700-ton heavy-lift mast cranes.

Before transport, the team carried out detailed load spreading calculations to ensure that the forces on the CSU and the cranes were within manageable limits. During transit an OCTOPUS-On-board system, was used to monitor real time vessel data.

Upon arrival at Haramachi the vessel faced bad weather which delayed unloading, but once cleared for discharge the team proceeded to lift the CSU. The Happy Buccaneer crane system was then able to lift the load to a height of 40 meters and outreach of 14.15 meters in order to bypass the wharf conveyor belt system and position the CSU correctly.

Dutch heavy-lift specialist BigLift Shipping operates a fleet of 15 vessels equipped with lifting capacities of up to 1,800 tons.
