Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport has backed plans to increase international cargo routes and increase the number of daily direct flights via the country.

Head of the Ministry of Transport’s International Co-operation Department Lê Tuấn Anh has set new targets to speed up transport infrastructure projects and boost air routes over the next four years.

Alongside greater air freight services, better connections with neighboring China, Laos and Cambodia are also expected to help breakbulk operators.

Key projects underway or planned in the country include new highway routes connecting China with Hà Nội and Lạng Sơn, Vân Đồn and Móng Cái, Hà Nội and Cao Bằng.

The ministry also plans better connections with Cambodia via the construction of the Long Bình to Chrey Thom Bridge.
