Good News...

Proud to share with you the professional performance of OPCA member Menzell Doehle Logistics GmbH, Germany about a very thrilling job under a tight and strong timeline.

Below details and timeline is for your kind information.

July 16th, 2018: Off coast Papua New Guinea, Solomon Sea/Bismarck Sea, Motor Vessel 6000 TEU en route Taiwan / Australia
Due to bad bunker the main engine of the vessel had been damaged, a consequent blackout had furthermore effected auxiliary engines as well as main lube oil pump. In an attempt to save the vessel, technical management and owners decided to order tug assistance and escort the vessel to Cairns, Australia for necessary repairs.


July 16th, 2018: Menzell Doehle office, Hamburg/Germany
The Menzell Doehle management received urgent rate request for a total of 4 Cylinder Head, Liners and spare parts, to be collected and shipped as soon as possible. The Menzell Doehle airfreight team concluded the cost calculation within the next 24 hours and sent the offer to the vessel owners / technical managers.

July 17th, 2018: Off coast Papua New Guinea, Solomon Sea/Bismarck Sea, Motor Vessel 6000 TEU en route Taiwan / Australia
The vessel’s situation worsened overnight, another liner had broken. The Port Authorities of Cairns, Australia rejected the call due to vessels dimensions, repairs shall be executed at anchorage.


July 19th, 2018: Off coast Papua New Guinea, Solomon Sea/Bismarck Sea, Motor Vessel 6000 TEU en route Taiwan / Australia
Total of 8 cylinders were damaged, the main engine stopped and the vessel was drifting. More tugs have been ordered and the vessel would be towed to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (which was ruled out before, due to low level infrastructure). The tugs would reach the drifting vessel in around two days, another 4 days had been calculated to tow her to Pt. Moresby (ETA July 26th).

July 20th, 2018: MDL office, Hamburg/Germany
Menzell Doehle received updated list of required spare parts, total 34 packages with overall 89,1 ts needed to arrive Port Moresby as soon as possible. Collections of goods started all over Europe, several FTL had been contracted thought the departure airport is still unknown.


July 23rd - 25th, 2018: MDL office, Hamburg/Germany
The air charter had been fixed, a Boeing 74F is scheduled to arrive Oostende-Brugge Airport, Belgium by July 30th. Collections of spare parts continued from Italy, Netherlands, Germany and Poland, first parts arrived at Oostende. The schedule of the aircraft had been confirmed, overflight rights had been secured, routing Oostende – Turkmenbashi – Bangkok – Pt. Moresby.

July 27th, 2018: Pt. Moresby, Papua New Guinea
The vessels arrived and took berth at the pier and several containers needed to be unloaded/reloaded to open the hatch to the boiler room. Local Menzell Doehle agents started to arrange for truck delivery from airport to pier, including mobile crane.


July 30th , 2018: Oostende-Brugge Airport, Belgium
Menzell Doehle management and chartering agents with ground handling staff made final planning. The aircraft arrived at around 18:00 hrs, briefing with loadmaster.

July 31st, 2018: Oostende-Brugge Airport, Belgium
Loading commenced at 06:00, concluded by 08:00 hrs and departure by 09:13, ETA Pt. Moresby 17:25 hrs (+1).


August 1st-2nd, 2018: Pt. Moresby, Papua New Guinea
Local Menzell Doehle agents cleared the goods after arrival, took delivery and arranged trucking to the vessel. Job concluded with a great success.
