Bremen-based terminal operator Weserport, part of the Rhenus Group, has replaced its gantry slewing crane with a Konecranes Gottwald model 6 mobile harbour crane.

The mobile harbour crane arrived at Weserport’s Terminal 1 earlier this year and has been used to handle breakbulk cargo and project loads. The gantry slewing crane has now been dismantled.

At 125 tonnes, the load-bearing capacity of the Konecranes Gottwald crane is more than double that of the crane it has replaced, says Weserport. “As a result, we can now handle individual heavy-duty items with our own equipment,” explains Heiner Delicat, managing director of Weserport.

The mobile harbour crane is mainly handling steel and breakbulk cargo at Weserport, but it is also likely be used to handle heavy project cargo modules and containers in future.

Strategic heavy-lift specialist ALE has delivered an Argentine SAOCOM 1A satellite as part of the Space-X rocket project.

The breakbulk consignment involved transport of the 12-tonne satellite from its fabrication yard to Bariloche airport. It was then loaded aboard an Antonov plane and transferred ready to be launched at Vandenberg air field.

“Transport operations required a complete shut-down of the 10 kilometer route, as well as civilian, Police and military escorts … the lifting operations were planned carefully in accordance with the client’s standards and ALE lifted the satellite onto the skidding system, where it was skidded into the airplane,” said Raul Anriquez, ALE’s project manager.

Headquartered in Staffordshire in the UK, ALE operates more than 30 regional offices around the world focused on complex heavy-lift projects in the oil and gas, civil, nuclear, offshore, renewables, petrochemical, ports, marine, minerals and metals and mining sectors.

    Dear All,

    Good News...

Proud to share with you the professional performance of OPCA member Winstar Logistic Pte Ltd, Singapore.

Winstar Logistic has recently handled heavylift shipment from Singapore to Batam, Indonesia.

    Details of the Shipment:

Firstly 2 units of propulsion engine weights 72mt each, with 28 packages parts (ie.gas and water system, valves etc) were shipped from Korea to Singapore.

Winstar Logistic received direct from first carrier and transferred to their barge which was required to discharge at a Batam private shipyard. These items were meant for a navy vessel. One of the engine came with spreader bar, that added to the weight of 75mt and standing at the height of 5.7m. Winstar team needed to switch the spreader bar from one machine to another, and also provide labour to cover one of the machine with tarpauline which was not done at POL due to bad weather situation.

First carrier arrived Singapore on Thursday. The loading onto barge was planned on a Monday, however cnee requested for earlier delivery of the engines despite it was a long weekend in Batam. However, Winstar Logistic managed to push forward the loading and secured a heavy lift berth in port at last minute notice with the help of their team in the port. Finally the cargo arrived at cnee shipyard on Saturday instead of the initial plan on Tuesday.

Congratulations to WINSTAR LOGISTIC PTE LTD, Singapore for their excellent job.
