The recently opened Russian multipurpose port of Bronka has successfully unloaded breakbulk cargo delivered from the U.S.

The consignment weighed 3,690 tonnes and was delivered aboard the cargo ship BBC Citrine, which sailed from Houston, Texas.

The port has handled breakbulk cargoes weighing up to 200 tonnes since early June. In that same period, four breakbulk vessels have berthed, handling the equivalent of 5,982 tonnes of breakbulk cargo.

The port is part of a new cargo area of Big Port Saint Petersburg, and is operated by Fenix, a subsidiary of Forum Holding Co.

Russian breakbulk carrier AirBridgeCargo has reported a 31 percent increase in tonnage carried in 2016 to date, due to "dynamic network expansion" and the addition of new destinations via partner airlines.

“Despite flat market conditions and depressive yields, we have seen confident support from our clients and this has bolstered our operations and ensured further growth. So far 2016 has been both challenging and opportunistic in terms of supporting our existing network and developing new services and destinations,” said Denis Ilin, executive president of AirBridgeCargo Airlines.

The firm cited new services and upgrades to routes connecting Houston, Abu-Dhabi, Singapore and Munich as responsible for growth which also saw year-on-year levels in May this year increase by 31 percent.

ABC provides project cargo services for the aerospace industry with a particular focus on shipments of satellites, helicopters, aircraft and parts. The firm is a subsidiary of Russia’s Volga-Dnepr Group.

Multipurpose liner company Swire Shipping said it is launching a new Asia Pacific service and upgrading its existing multipurpose services in the region.

The new Pacific Islands service will provide a twice monthly direct service from Australia to New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji. The route has been planned to allow for onward connections throughout the region to Tarawa in Kiribati, Majuro in the Marshall Islands, Apia in Samoa, Pago Pago in American Samoa, and Nuku’alofa in Tonga.

Swire will deploy two Miho-Class vessels which are purpose built for the South Pacific trades to service this route.

“We are continuously looking at ways to upgrade our services and network to offer greater frequency, faster transit time and better coverage for our key markets in the Pacific,” said Jeremy Sutton, general manager at Swire Shipping.

Swire Shipping operates a fleet of multipurpose ships capable of carrying a wide range of cargoes including containerized, refrigerated, project, breakbulk and heavy-lift cargoes around the globe. The firm is the liner shipping division of the China Navigation Co.

AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) has added its sixth destination in China with the launch of flights to Chongqing.

The new service operates from Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport two times per week - every Wednesday and Friday - and will be linked with ABC's Shanghai (PVG) flights returning to Moscow.

With the launch of Chongqing services, ABC says that its customers will have access to and from this "important Chinese economic area" and gain connections to consumers in Russia, Europe and the USA via ABC's international hub in Moscow.

"Chongqing is our sixth point in China, which makes our footprint in this country stronger and guarantees the coverage needed to ensure we are meeting our customers' needs," claims Robert van de Weg, ABC's senior vice president, marketing and sales.
