The Netherlands headquartered industrial lifting and logistics provider Mammoet has purchased four Grove RT550E rough terrain cranes from Manitowoc.

The cranes have already been commissioned to start work on a large steel mill and other industrial plant projects in Belgium.

At less than 12 m long, 2.55 m wide and weighing under 29 tonnes, the RT550E offers the highest capacity in its class at 45 tonnes and the longest boom at 39 m, claims Manitowoc.

The five-section boom can telescope partial loads between any two boom positions. It can also be fitted with an 8 m fixed swingaway jib to extend its reach to 47 m.

Manitowoc states that the hoist offers a higher single line pull, increased speed and line pull speeds are improved by up to 70 percent compared to similar cranes in this class.

Wouter van Noort, managing director of Mammoet Benelux commented: "The RT550E is an ideal product for us with its small footprint and quick and easy set-up times." He added: "One of the main reasons we selected this crane was because it has the longest boom in its class, so we did not require an additional jib section. Additionally, because we are a rental company, we required a crane that was easy to transport to different jobsites at the lowest possible cost. Because of its compact dimensions, the RT550E was the perfect choice."

Emirates SkyCargo has launched a weekly freighter service to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

From Phnom Penh, cargo will be transported via a trucking network to reach other cities and regions in Cambodia, explained the airline.

"Cambodia's air cargo market is growing at a robust rate with Europe and the USA being key export markets," said Hiran Perera, senior vice president at Emirates SkyCargo.

According to Cambodia Airports, which manages the country's three international airports, the volume of airfreight shipments to and from Cambodia increased 14 percent in 2015 to 38,065 tonnes.

Emirates SkyCargo will initially deploy an MD 11 freighter aircraft on the new service, providing outsourced capacity for 80 tonnes of cargo. The aircraft's wide body will also enable it to uplift outsized cargo and carry larger consignments, says the airline.

Dutch heavy-lift specialist Mammoet and engineering consortium Techint-Technip, or CTTP76, are to assist with integration and lifting operations for 20 modules for the hull of a Brazilian offshore vessel.

The partners will provide expertise for  complex installation procedures on energy firm Petrobras’ planned P-76 Floating Production, Storage and Offloading, or FPSO, vessel.

Both firms will provide specialized heavy-lifting expertise for the transportation and lifting of the modules, which each weigh up to 1,935 tonnes. Mammoet will supply its PTC 200-DS ring crane for the lifting operation and the crane itself will be disassembled and transported from the USA to Brazil in containers.

Integration work will be executed at the Techint UOT offshore yard  in the city of Paranaguá in Paraná State, Brazil.

“Although Mammoet Brazil and CTTP76 have only just signed the contract, Mammoet’s large fleet and global presence make it possible to start mobilization immediately. We are very pleased with the award of this high profile contract and we look forward to working with the highly dedicated project team of CTTP76,” , said Michel Booden, Mammoet Latin America sales director.

Three steam cracking modules have been delivered to the material offloading facility (MOLF) in Tanjung Setapa, Johor for Petronas' Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Malaysia.

The three modules will form part of the main structure for RAPID's steam cracker complex, which will be constructed by a consortium of Toyo Engineering Corporation and Toyo Engineering & Construction.

The modules, measuring 76 m in length and 4.2 m in diameter, have a combined weight of approximately 540 tonnes.

The arrival of the abnormal loads signified the start of operations for the MOLF in Tanjung Setapa, marking another milestone in the progress of the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC), which is scheduled for start up in 2019.

The MOLF in Tanjung Setapa comprises two jetties with three berthing facilities, capable of receiving heavy lift, oversize and breakbulk cargoes.

Another MOLF in Teluk Ramunia will also be used to serve the needs of the RAPID project. Together, both ports are estimated to handle around 4 million tonnes of cargo over the next three years, said Petronas.

Trimble has introduced the MBR Series Display, which it says can monitor load, wind speed, wind gust, A2B, boom angle, trim angle, list angle, rope payout, rope speed and/or pressure for many crane and lifting applications.

The MBR Series comes in two variations: a handheld, battery-powered version (MBR100), or a cab-mounted, vehicle-powered version (MBR105). Both models can monitor one analog and one digital sensor simultaneously.

Dawn Cirkl, business area director for Trimble's Lifting Solutions Division, added: "Whether it's an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) wanting to test a machine's design, a crane supervisor wanting to monitor a load, or an inspector certifying a crane during its annual inspection, the MBR Display Series offers a wide variety of applications to suit the needs of our customers in a rugged, pocket-friendly case."

AAL has added a call at Stewart World Port in British Columbia, Canada to its Pacific service.

The inaugural sailing into Stewart World Port took place in February 2016 with the 31,000 dwt multipurpose ship AAL Newcastle, which unloaded project cargo at the recently opened Canadian gateway.

AAL's Pacific service offers a monthly sailing between north Asia and the west coast of North America, deploying a fleet of three vessels, each with a combined lifting capacity of 700 tonnes.

The heavy lift shipping line explained that it chose to call at Stewart World Port due to its location in one of the most mineral-rich areas in North America, its proximity to northwest British Columbia and eastern Yukon, and its deep sea berthing facility.

HLPFI reported in September 2015 that Stewart World Port had officially opened.
